About The Position

The Anesthesia Technician-Operating Room position is within the Surgical Services I Lexington department at Baptist Health. This department includes the Pre-Op Department, 20 operating rooms, a Postoperative Care Unit, an Endoscopy Department, and a Sterile Processing Department. The Anesthesia Technician assesses patient-specific needs preoperatively, such as resistant organisms and latex allergies, and communicates relevant patient and procedure data to the surgical services team. This role involves meeting with anesthesiologists and vendors to identify departmental needs, assisting in the capital budget process, and communicating with the Sterile Processing Department regarding supplies and instrumentation. The technician also instructs staff on the proper use and handling of anesthesia equipment, assists with staff scheduling, and demonstrates leadership. A key aspect of the role is ensuring positive customer relations and maintaining a healing environment through caring behaviors and sensitivity in managing difficult situations.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. If not already certified, applicants must obtain BLS within 30 days of their hire date.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient specific needs preoperatively i.e., resistant organisms, latex allergy, age specific and communicates with the surgical services team members regarding relevant patient and procedure data.
  • Meets with anesthesiologists to identify needs of the department.
  • Meets with vendors to identify equipment /supplies needed for the department.
  • Assists in capital budget process.
  • Communicates with the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) regarding necessary changes, supplies/instrumentation needs.
  • Communicates conflicts in the OR schedule to the Chief Anesthesiologist/designee.
  • Coordinates special procedures with SPD.
  • Instructs staff regarding proper usage of and handling of anesthesia equipment.
  • Assists with staff Scheduling/coordinates coverage.
  • Ensures positive customer relations through caring behaviors.
  • Uses sensitivity in managing difficult or emotional situations.
