About The Position

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is seeking an Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist to join the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. This role involves practicing the full spectrum of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in a dynamic, academic hospital environment. The position offers a high level of diagnostic autonomy in interpreting and signing out surgical pathology, cytology, and frozen section cases. Responsibilities include performing intraoperative consultations, autopsies, renal biopsy adequacy assessments, and critical result reporting, while collaborating with multidisciplinary clinical teams. The pathologist will also provide medical oversight and consultation to clinical laboratories (hematology, urinalysis, body fluid analysis, blood smear review, reference laboratory testing), and supervise/mentor Pathologists' Assistants, laboratory staff, residents, fellows, and medical students, with opportunities for teaching and academic involvement. Collaboration with laboratory leadership is expected to support operational excellence, accreditation standards, and proficiency testing. The role is part of a collegial, multidisciplinary team focused on clinical excellence, education, and continuous quality improvement, offering the chance to make a meaningful impact through patient care, education, laboratory leadership, and academic scholarship.

Requirements

  • Active New York State Medical License
  • Board Certification or Eligibility in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
  • At least 3 years of clinical experience

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and sign out a wide variety of surgical pathology, cytology, and frozen section cases with a high level of diagnostic autonomy.
  • Perform intraoperative consultations, autopsies, renal biopsy adequacy assessments, and critical result reporting.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams.
  • Provide medical oversight and consultation to the clinical laboratories, including hematology, urinalysis, body fluid analysis, blood smear review, and reference laboratory testing.
  • Supervise and mentor Pathologists' Assistants, laboratory staff, residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Provide dedicated opportunities for teaching and academic involvement.
  • Collaborate with laboratory leadership to support operational excellent, accreditation standards, and proficiency testing across the laboratory.
  • Support clinical excellence, education, and continuous quality improvement.

Benefits

  • Annual Base Salary: $270,000 (Board Eligible); $280,000 (Board Certified) based on 40-hour work week.
  • Additional compensation available for extra call or sessional/per diem hours.
  • Estimated annual compensation for 10 additional sessional/per diem hours worked per week is $55,520.
  • Projected bonus of up to $40,000 (based on previous year’s average), contingent upon meeting quality and productivity targets.
