About The Position

City of Hope Medical Group seeks a full-time academic Clinical Pathologist with subspecialty interest/expertise in Clinical Chemistry to join their expanding Division of Clinical Pathology in the Department of Pathology. This role is based at the Duarte campus and will serve as the Medical Director of Clinical Chemistry, supporting immunocompromised cancer and cellular therapy patients. The successful candidate will provide patient-centered care, lead specialized chemistry laboratories with automation lines, and develop endocrine, immunology, tumor marker, and therapeutic drug monitoring assays. The position requires a strong interest in clinical service and research, representation in test utilization and quality committees, and on-call duties for other Clinical Pathology sections. Collaboration with CLIA Laboratory Directors, Executive Director of Clinical Laboratories, managers, supervisors, and technical staff is expected. The role also involves promoting collaboration, inter-disciplinary teamwork, and staff development through medical education.

Requirements

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree
  • Board eligibility/certification in Clinical Pathology or Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology from the American Board of Pathology
  • Hold or be eligible for a medical license in the State of California.
  • Knowledge of a diverse population of patients and interaction with staff from various departments.
  • Experience in research methodologies and grant funding.
  • Knowledge regarding all phases of technical leadership, training, quality assurance/quality control, and regulatory compliance associated with both IVD and laboratory-developed testing.
  • Defining organizational goals, critical issues, and strategic plans.
  • Modeling and upholding organizational norms and values (health and safety)
  • Thinking strategically and innovatively while supporting department and institution-wide initiatives
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and negotiate with people at all levels

Nice To Haves

  • Subspecialty interest/expertise in Clinical Chemistry
  • Board eligibility/certification in Clinical Chemistry from the American Board of Pathology or American Board of Clinical Chemistry is strongly preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in or directing a clinical pathology laboratory or section are preferred.
  • Highly qualified applicants with fellowship training but without the minimum experience will also be considered.
  • Clinical assistant to full professor ranks will be considered

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient-centered care in collaboration with a diverse team of physicians.
  • Serve as the Medical Director of Clinical Chemistry at the Duarte campus.
  • Lead specialized chemistry laboratories featuring automation lines.
  • Lead efforts to develop endocrine, immunology, tumor marker, and therapeutic drug monitoring assays.
  • Represent the Clinical Laboratories in test utilization, departmental quality, and laboratory information system committees.
  • Provide coverage and on-call duties for other sections of Clinical Pathology as directed.
  • Work with CLIA Laboratory Directors, Executive Director of Clinical Laboratories, managers, supervisors, and technical staff on clinical laboratory services and operations.
  • Promote an environment for collaboration, inter-disciplinary teamwork, and staff development through medical education.
