About The Position

Join our team and help make a difference in students’ lives! We are looking for AmeriCorps members to support teachers in strengthening student success in reading and math. Members will serve alongside educators to assist with small group instruction, provide academic support, and contribute to school-based projects that promote student achievement and engagement. This is a great opportunity to be part of a dedicated team focused on helping every student grow while gaining hands-on experience in education. The service sites include Rice Avenue Middle School (RAMS), which serves grades 5-8, and Elk Valley Elementary School (EVES), which serves young learners. Both schools focus on building relationships, fostering student growth, and providing academic and social support.

Requirements

  • Government Issued Photo ID
  • Signed Social Security Card
  • US Birth Certificate or another form of Proof of Citizenship
  • Must be a US citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to commit to the full term of service (1700 hours over 48 weeks).

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in strengthening student success in reading and math.
  • Assist with small group instruction.
  • Provide academic support.
  • Contribute to school-based projects that promote student achievement and engagement.
  • Plan and implement service-learning projects for students at host sites or in communities.
  • Attend monthly member meetings.
  • Complete virtual training to amplify service abilities.
  • Participate in National Service Days and planned events.
  • Create a service portfolio and track and report service outcomes.
  • Serve as an ambassador in your neighborhood and community.
  • Participate in a virtual pre-service training prior to serving at assigned host site.
  • Participate in a three-day pre-service training which may be virtual or in-person.
  • Participate in AmeriCorps activities in addition to host site placement responsibilities.
  • Engage in activities concentrated in the areas of School Readiness & Success, Mentoring Youth through Service, Academic support service, Community Strengthening through Outreach Events and Special Projects, and STEM/STEAM/STREAM activities and service learning.

Benefits

  • Pretax Living Allowance: $2,600.00 monthly gross (48 weeks)
  • Education Award: $7,395.00 upon completion of term
