About The Position
Join our team and help make a difference in students’ lives! We are looking for AmeriCorps members to support teachers in strengthening student success in reading and math. Members will serve alongside educators to assist with small group instruction, provide academic support, and contribute to school-based projects that promote student achievement and engagement. This is a great opportunity to be part of a dedicated team focused on helping every student grow while gaining hands-on experience in education. Rice Avenue Middle School (RAMS) is a vibrant, student-centered school serving grades 5–8, where building relationships and fostering student growth are at the core of our work. Staff collaborate closely to support students during a pivotal stage of development, helping them build confidence, responsibility, and a strong sense of belonging. Through mentoring, small-group support, and engaging schoolwide initiatives, RAMS provides a dynamic environment for individuals who want to make a meaningful impact and inspire students to stay motivated and connected to their learning. Elk Valley Elementary School (EVES) offers a warm and welcoming environment where young learners begin their educational journey. The focus at EVES is on developing strong foundational skills while nurturing curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning. With an emphasis on positive relationships and early support, EVES provides a rewarding setting for those passionate about helping children grow academically and socially, making a lasting difference from the very start of their school experience. AmeriCorps is a national service program in which during membership members also agree to participate in AmeriCorps activities in addition to host site placement responsibilities. Activities are concentrated in the following areas: School Readiness & Success, Mentoring Youth through Service, Academic support service, Community Strengthening through Outreach Events and Special Projects, STEM/STEAM/STREAM activities and service learning. Host sites may have additional areas of focus to be discussed at host site interview. The national service movement that engages thousands of men and women of all ages and backgrounds in service often referred to as the domestic Peace Corps, aimed at meeting the needs in the areas of Education, Public Safety, Environment, and Human Services. AmeriCorps is much more than a service program. It is a movement that unites Americans to improve our neighborhoods and our lives. In communities large and small throughout America, AmeriCorps Members are taking responsibility, learning valuable skills, and helping their friends and neighbors and Getting Things Done! AmeriCorps is part of a tradition of service, and it represents America at its best - making a lasting difference while promoting the values of community, responsibility, and opportunity.
Requirements

Responsibilities
- Support teachers in strengthening student success in reading and math.
- Assist with small group instruction.
- Provide academic support.
- Contribute to school-based projects that promote student achievement and engagement.
- Plan and implement service-learning projects for students at host sites or in communities.
- Attend monthly member meetings.
- Complete virtual training to amplify service abilities.
- Participate in National Service Days and planned events.
- Create a service portfolio and track and report service outcomes.
- Serve as an ambassador in your neighborhood and community.
- Participate in a virtual pre-service training prior to serving at assigned host site.
- Participate in a three-day pre-service training which may be virtual or in-person.
Benefits
- $2,600.00 monthly gross (48 weeks) living allowance
- $7,395.00 Education Award upon completion of term
- Federal loan forbearance (pause in loan payments) while serving in AmeriCorps
- Accrued interest while serving as an AmeriCorps member paid by AmeriCorps program
