About The Position

Northeast Medical Group is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join its busy, growing Ambulatory Orthopedic Physiatry Practice in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. The APP works collaboratively with experienced physiatrists and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality outpatient musculoskeletal and orthopedic rehabilitation care. The role is open to experienced APPs and new graduates interested in orthopedic physiatry and rehabilitation medicine.

The APP provides comprehensive, patient-centered care through assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, and care coordination. Working with supervising or collaborating physicians and the multidisciplinary team, the APP evaluates and manages acute and chronic musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions, develops treatment plans, reviews diagnostic testing and imaging, and supports patients and families. The position also includes accurate electronic medical record documentation, participation in quality improvement, and maintaining evidence-based clinical practice and professional competency.

The schedule is four 10-hour shifts per week, Monday through Thursday, with no weekends, holidays, or call responsibilities. Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current or eligible Connecticut PA or APRN license; the qualifications also specify Connecticut state PA or NP licensure as applicable.
• Board certification or board eligibility required; the qualifications specify active NCCPA certification for PAs or appropriate board specialty certification for NPs.
• Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration and DEA registration, or eligibility; the qualifications also list a DEA license.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and clinical decision-making skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary outpatient practice.
• APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs must be appointed to the affiliated medical staff of a YNHHS hospital and complete the Medical Staff credentialing process, including providing evidence of current competence and appropriate reference letters.
• ACLS/BLS certification when indicated for the position profile.
• Maintain additional licensure, certifications, and continuing education credits if required during employment based on position and specialty.

Nice To Haves

• Clinical experience as an NP or PA in the specialty or service line is preferred but not required.
• Experience in orthopedics, physiatry, sports medicine, rehabilitation, or musculoskeletal medicine is preferred but not required.
• Acute care or outpatient orthopedic experience is a plus.
• New graduates with a strong interest in orthopedic rehabilitation are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, including detailed medical histories and focused physical examinations.
• Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with acute and chronic musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions in the outpatient setting.
• Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians and the multidisciplinary care team.
• Order, interpret, and review diagnostic testing, laboratory studies, imaging, and radiologic results.
• Provide patient and family education about diagnoses, treatment options, rehabilitation programs, injury prevention, long-term musculoskeletal health, and available resources.
• Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently in the electronic medical record while meeting hospital and regulatory requirements and protecting confidential information.
• Coordinate care with physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize outcomes.
• Provide assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient and family needs as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Prescribe treatment and medications and perform procedures as permitted by institutional and state guidelines, specialty scope, and professional competency.
• Provide psychosocial support to patients and families in a caring, ethical, and professional manner.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain evidence-based clinical practice and compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
• Maintain and advance professional competency, meet hospital employee requirements, and report safety events and near misses.
• Serve as a clinical resource or provide orientation for new house staff; may precept students, mentor prospective APPs, collaborate on research and quality improvement, and help develop clinical protocols.
• Perform other clinical duties consistent with department goals, training, professional scope, and practice guidelines; may respond to emergency situations within YNHHS parameters.
