Opportunity Posting

City of Alexandria•Alexandria, VA

About The Position

The ALX Career Launch Program is a pathway into public service careers with the City of Alexandria, offered in partnership with the Department of Transportation and Environmental Services and Alexandria City Public Schools. This posting is an application for acceptance into a training program, not a direct application for a permanent position. No CDL or prior experience is required, although relevant experience may improve an applicant’s likelihood of selection. Selected participants receive employment preparatory training and may compete for sponsorship for CDL training. The initial phase lasts three weeks and includes approximately two hours of on-demand video training, which participants may complete on their own schedule. After completing the training, participants take part in a short interview about what they learned and their interest in the position. All participants who complete this phase receive a program completion certificate. One candidate per vacant position may also be selected for CDL sponsorship, including obtaining a learner’s permit and completing a five- or eleven-week training program, depending on the assigned schedule. The CDL process includes a physical medical examination and a 10-year driving record check. A recruitment for the associated vacant position is expected within two months after the CDL portion is completed. Participants who successfully obtain their CDL are guaranteed an interview if they apply for the posted position. Acceptance into the program does not guarantee employment; participants must apply and compete for vacancies. Any job offer is contingent on required checks and examinations.
