About The Position

HUTCO, Inc. is seeking 1st Class Aluminum Ship Fitters to work in Lockport, Louisiana. The position involves shipyard work, including fitting pipe systems and performing related fabrication, installation, testing, and repair. Workers must be able to interpret blueprints, sketches, and templates and prepare fabrication sketches. The role requires working in confined spaces and at heights, traversing gangways and scaffolding, and handling physical tasks and loads. Applicants must have at least three years of shipyard experience and pass a hands-on skills test, drug test, and E-Verify.

Requirements

At least three years of experience working in shipyards.
Pass a hands-on skills test.
Pass a drug test and E-Verify.
Ability to comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates.
Ability to perform the physical tasks described, including working in confined spaces and at heights and handling loads.

Responsibilities

Perform layout, fabrication, installation, testing, and repair of pipe systems.
Fit pipe and prepare joints for welding according to the requirements of the system.
Work from blueprints and create fabrication sketches that another mechanic could use to fabricate a pipe unit.
Comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates.
Use relevant equipment, work processes, and techniques while following applicable regulations and generally observed safety practices.
Enter and move through manholes to work in internally confined spaces.
Manipulate and transport loads up to 50 pounds over distances of up to 200 feet, approximately one to six times during each eight-hour shift; occasionally handle loads up to 75 pounds.
Manipulate and operate machines and tools essential to ship fitting.
Traverse gangways and scaffolding at varying heights, and negotiate uneven surfaces and height differences between dock and vessel.
Ascend and work at heights up to 30 feet.
Perform stooping, squatting, twisting, kneeling, lifting, and reaching.
