About The Position

Under the limited supervision of the Associate Dean of the College of Education and Technology (CET), the Coordinator of Alternative Licensure and Graduate Student Success provides professional leadership, coordination, and administrative oversight for the College's Graduate and Alternative Licensure programs. This position serves as a primary resource for prospective and newly admitted candidates and exercises independent judgment in administering program processes, evaluating applicant eligibility, advising candidates, monitoring student progress, interpreting licensure and program requirements, and resolving candidate and program issues. This is a residential position. Working collaboratively with the CET Dean, Associate Dean, Graduate Coordinators, school district partners, and the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED), the Coordinator supports the effective administration, compliance, and continuous improvement of the College's graduate and alternative licensure programs. The position coordinates recruitment, admissions, advising, student progress monitoring, program communications, and candidate support; ensures compliance with New Mexico educator licensure requirements and applicable accreditation standards; maintains accurate program records and documentation; and manages the initial admissions process for graduate programs housed within the Educational Studies (ES) and Curriculum and Instruction (C & I) departments.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and three years’ experience working in a New Mexico public school, higher education setting, traditional educator preparation, or post-baccalaureate licensure program; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of New Mexico Teacher Educator Alternative Licensure requirements for Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education certification.
Demonstrated knowledge of CET graduate programs in ES and C & I, or ability to learn.

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective and current alternative licensure graduate candidates by providing accurate guidance on admissions, licensure requirements, program policies, registration, and educator licensure.
Advise and support alternative licensure candidates throughout the program by independently assessing academic and licensure progress, identifying barriers to completion, developing individualized strategies, and coordinating appropriate interventions and resources to promote student success and retention.
Maintain current knowledge of New Mexico educator licensure regulations, certification pathways, NMPED policies, and accreditation standards to ensure program compliance and provide accurate guidance to candidates and stakeholders.
Interpret and apply New Mexico educator licensure requirements, NMPED policies, University policies, and accreditation standards to evaluate individual circumstances, resolve program and candidate issues, and ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
Maintain confidential student records, licensure plans, candidate portfolios, and program documentation in accordance with university, state, and national accreditation requirements.
Evaluate and review graduate applications for completeness and eligibility based on admission requirements and applicable program.
Make recommendations regarding applicant eligibility and refer qualified applicants to the appropriate Graduate Coordinator for final program review admission decisions.
Communicate with prospective students, candidates, and school district partners regarding admission requirements, program expectations, and application status.
Regular and predictable attendance required.
