About The Position

This position is responsible for staff support to meet the Tribal environmental goals and objectives for the Pala Indian Reservation under the direction of the Pala Environmental Department. This position is responsible for maintaining the current Air Program, identifying existing and potential air quality issues, identifying causes and effects of air pollution.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of standard air quality monitoring equipment.
  • Proficient with technical equipment and data analysis.
  • Proficient in office equipment operation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Minimum 6 months general office experience.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationship with people in a varied economic, educational and cultural background.
  • Physical and emotional condition adequate to meet the demands of the assigned work station and duties.
  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Minimum 6 months of experience working in air quality monitoring.
  • Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians.
  • Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing during employment.
  • A DMV print out with a valid class “C” driver’s license and background check will be required.
  • Must be able to pass a Fingerprint-based background check of potential employees, volunteers, and contractors pursuant to Public Law 101-630 - Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working in Native American tribal communities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Reservation-wide Air Quality Program.
  • Update Emissions Inventory.
  • Best Management Practices, (BMPs) for air quality.
  • Define and create historical air quality database.
  • Ability to complete training courses re: certification process for air quality testing, sampling techniques and other related courses.
  • Develop working relationship with Federal, State and local governments.
  • Conduct public outreach through tribal meetings and workshops, etc.
  • Develop air quality codes and ordinances.
  • Coordinate air quality program with other Tribal departmental programs and/or projects.
  • Attend workshops, seminars and training (local, overnight and out-of-state).
  • Preparation of formal written reports and oral presentations to Pala Executive Committee for program implementation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
