About The Position

Join the App Intelligence team within the Siri organization to help build Apple’s next-generation AI assistant capabilities, including personal context understanding and on-screen awareness, with privacy built in. The team develops the on-device runtime foundation that powers Siri across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and visionOS. App Intelligence turns app capabilities into actions users can request through an assistant. The team owns the app side of its partnership with Siri’s planning and execution engine: defining what apps can offer, how they express those capabilities, and whether the resulting experience is reliable and trustworthy. As a platform engineer, you will build the on-device software that enables these experiences and make them fast and reliable. This is early-stage work in an area where the best ways for apps to expose capabilities to an assistant are still being explored. You will design interfaces, validate them with app partners, and iterate based on what you learn. The role involves ambiguity and calls for developing and defending architectural approaches through working software and measured results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience developing and shipping production software.
  • Strong proficiency in C++, Swift, or Objective-C.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
  • Strong understanding of operating system internals, concurrency, multithreading, and memory management.
  • Strong familiarity with large language models and AI assistants.
  • Fluency with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, including judgment about when to apply them and how to verify their output.
  • Experience with system performance analysis and optimization techniques.
  • Ability to work independently, solve complex problems, and learn new technologies quickly.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating across technical teams and driving alignment on shared API surfaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Swift and Xcode and experience building applications for Apple platforms.
  • Experience designing and developing systems for resource-constrained environments, including on-device latency, memory, and power budgets.
  • Experience with AI software runtimes, agent orchestration frameworks, voice assistants, or conversational AI systems using LLMs.
  • Experience building LLM-driven software features, including tool and function-calling interfaces, context construction, and model-output validation.
  • Experience with API design or framework development, including cross-functional components and APIs, and interface versioning and compatibility for shipped clients.
  • Experience with evaluation or telemetry infrastructure for measuring end-to-end quality of LLM-driven features, such as Python, SQL, or dashboards.
  • For candidates at the more senior end of the range, experience leading complex feature design or driving architectural decisions across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Build the on-device runtime foundation that powers Siri and supports experiences across Apple platforms.
  • Develop on-device platform software that enables apps to expose capabilities to an assistant.
  • Design interfaces for how apps express capabilities to an assistant.
  • Prove out designs with app partners and iterate based on results and learning.
  • Improve the reliability, speed, and trustworthiness of assistant experiences.
  • Form architectural approaches and support them with working software and measured results.
  • Collaborate with the team building Siri’s planning and execution engine and align on shared API surfaces.
