About The Position

Join the App Intelligence team within the Siri organization to build the on-device runtime foundation that powers Siri and Apple Intelligence across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and visionOS. The role focuses on enabling seamless, intelligent, secure, reliable, and fast assistant experiences, including capabilities such as personal context understanding and on-screen awareness, with privacy built in from the ground up. App Intelligence is the on-device system that makes app capabilities available through assistant requests. The team partners with Siri’s planning and execution engine team and owns the app side of that partnership: defining what apps can offer, how they express those capabilities, and whether the resulting experience is reliable enough to trust. As a platform engineer, you will develop the on-device software that enables these experiences. The work is early and involves ambiguity; you will help determine how apps should expose capabilities to an assistant by designing interfaces, validating them with app partners, and iterating based on results. You will form and defend architectural approaches with working software and measured outcomes.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years developing and shipping production software.
  • Strong proficiency in C++, Swift, or Objective-C.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
  • Strong understanding of operating system internals, concurrency, multithreading, and memory management.
  • Strong familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI assistants.
  • Fluency with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, with good judgment about where to apply them and how to verify their output.
  • Experience with system performance analysis and optimization techniques.
  • Ability to work independently, solve complex problems, and learn new technologies quickly.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating across technical teams and driving alignment on shared API surfaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Swift and Xcode, and experience building applications for Apple platforms.
  • Experience designing and developing systems for resource-constrained environments, including on-device latency, memory, and power budgets.
  • Experience with AI software runtimes or agent orchestration frameworks, or with voice assistants or conversational AI systems that use LLMs.
  • Experience building LLM-driven software features, including tool and function-calling interfaces, context construction, and model-output validation.
  • Experience with API design or framework development, including cross-functional software components and APIs, and interface versioning and compatibility for shipped clients.
  • Experience with evaluation or telemetry infrastructure for measuring end-to-end quality of LLM-driven features, such as Python, SQL, or dashboards.
  • For candidates at the more senior end of the range, experience leading complex feature design or driving architectural decisions across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Build the on-device runtime foundation and platform software that powers Siri and App Intelligence.
  • Design interfaces for how apps expose capabilities to an assistant, and validate them with real app partners.
  • Improve the reliability, speed, and quality of assistant experiences.
  • Collaborate with the Siri planning and execution engine team and other technical teams on shared API surfaces.
  • Make architectural decisions, implement working software, and evaluate results through measured outcomes.
