About The Position

Join the App Intelligence team within the Siri organization to help shape Apple’s on-device assistant experiences. App Intelligence turns app capabilities into actions users can request through Siri. The team partners with Siri’s planning and execution engine team and owns the app-facing side of that partnership, including what apps can offer, how they express those capabilities, and whether the resulting experience is reliable and trustworthy. As a platform engineer, you will build the on-device runtime foundation that powers Siri across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and visionOS. This early-stage work includes designing interfaces for how apps expose capabilities to an assistant, validating those interfaces with app partners, and iterating based on results. The role involves ambiguity and requires forming and defending architectural decisions through working software and measured outcomes. You will develop a robust, performant, and maintainable runtime; contribute to architecture decisions; investigate and improve end-to-end Siri reliability; and shape the interfaces between the runtime and models, including tool and function-calling schemas, context construction, and model-output validation. You will also contribute to evaluation and telemetry systems that measure whether platform changes improve user outcomes.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years developing and shipping production software.
  • Strong proficiency in C++, Swift, or Objective-C.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
  • Strong understanding of operating-system internals, concurrency, multithreading, and memory management.
  • Strong familiarity with large language models and AI assistants.
  • Fluency with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, including good judgment about when to use them and how to verify their output.
  • Experience with system performance analysis and optimization techniques.
  • Ability to work independently, solve complex problems, and learn new technologies quickly.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating across technical teams and driving alignment on shared API surfaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Swift and Xcode, with experience building applications for Apple platforms.
  • Experience designing and developing systems for resource-constrained environments, including on-device latency, memory, and power budgets.
  • Experience with AI software runtimes or agent orchestration frameworks, or with voice assistants or conversational AI systems leveraging LLMs.
  • Experience building LLM-driven software features, including tool and function-calling interfaces, context construction, and model-output validation.
  • Experience with API design or framework development, including cross-functional components and APIs, and interface versioning and compatibility for shipped clients.
  • Experience with evaluation or telemetry infrastructure for measuring end-to-end quality of LLM-driven features, such as Python, SQL, or dashboards.
  • For candidates at the more senior end of the range, experience leading complex feature design or driving architectural decisions across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain the robust on-device runtime platform that enables end-to-end Siri experiences.
  • Write well-designed, scalable, maintainable, highly testable, debuggable, and performant code using sound engineering practices.
  • Contribute to and help shape architecture decisions that enable the product to scale.
  • Debug, profile, and optimize system performance while meeting on-device latency, memory, and power budgets.
  • Diagnose failures in end-to-end Siri experiences and convert them into measurable platform quality and reliability improvements.
  • Contribute to the shared evaluation and telemetry loop used to assess whether platform changes improve user outcomes.
  • Design and evolve interfaces between the runtime and the model, including tool and function-calling schemas, context construction, and model-output validation.
  • Design interfaces for how apps expose capabilities to an assistant, prove them out with app partners, and iterate based on what is learned.
  • Collaborate with the team building Siri’s planning and execution engine and with other technical teams to align on shared API surfaces.
