About The Position

Founded in 1995, Vastian provides healthcare and laboratory quality, compliance, and accreditation solutions. Its configurable integrated platform helps laboratories and hospitals centralize and automate quality and compliance tasks. Vastian is a private equity-backed, fast-growing SaaS business based in Lawrenceville, Georgia, outside Atlanta. The AI & Data Solutions Engineer is a hands-on engineering role that turns business requirements into practical AI and data solutions. Working with the AI & Data Solutions Manager and stakeholders across the business, the engineer supports requirements gathering and builds AI agents using C#, Azure AI Foundry, and Microsoft Fabric. The role also develops data pipelines, Model Context Protocol (MCP) endpoints, and system integrations that connect agents to the information and capabilities they need. This position supports Vastian’s strategy to become an agent-centric business, enabling efficient AI for business operations and client-facing solutions. The engineer contributes throughout the delivery lifecycle, from discovery and task definition through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing improvement, helping deliver secure, reliable, and maintainable solutions that reduce manual effort and create measurable business value.

Requirements

  • Strong C# and .NET development skills, including building APIs and asynchronous services and writing maintainable, testable code.
  • Practical ability to build AI agents using Azure AI Foundry, including agent instructions, tool calling, orchestration, and context retrieval.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, SQL, data pipelines, and data transformation and validation techniques.
  • Ability to develop REST APIs, work with JSON, and implement MCP endpoints connecting agents to approved data and system capabilities.
  • Understanding of system integration patterns, authentication, authorization, error handling, and secure data access.
  • Ability to gather requirements, map business workflows, and break problems into scoped tasks with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Proficiency with Git, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD practices, with a systematic approach to troubleshooting.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, effective collaboration with technical and nontechnical stakeholders, and attention to documentation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience developing and delivering C#/.NET applications or services in a professional environment.
  • Hands-on experience building AI agents or LLM-powered applications using Azure AI Foundry, including integration with external tools or data sources.
  • Practical experience using Microsoft Fabric to build or maintain data pipelines and prepare data for downstream use.
  • Experience delivering API-based integrations between business systems, including testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Experience working with stakeholders to clarify requirements and contribute to delivery from discovery through implementation and validation.

Responsibilities

  • Work with business and technical stakeholders to gather requirements, understand workflows, and identify opportunities for AI agents, automation, and data solutions.
  • Translate requirements into scoped technical tasks, delivery estimates, dependencies, and clear acceptance criteria in partnership with the AI & Data Solutions Manager.
  • Design, develop, and maintain AI agents and supporting services using C#, Azure AI Foundry, and Microsoft Fabric for internal business operations and client-facing solutions.
  • Develop agent instructions, orchestration logic, and context retrieval to support accurate responses and effective execution of defined business tasks.
  • Build and maintain MCP endpoints and APIs that expose approved data and system capabilities to AI agents through well-defined, secure interfaces.
  • Develop and maintain Microsoft Fabric data pipelines and transformations to ingest, prepare, and deliver reliable data for AI, analytics, and operational use.
  • Implement system integrations connecting business applications, data sources, and AI workflows, including data mapping, validation, and error handling.
  • Test and evaluate agent behavior, response quality, tool execution, and data accuracy against agreed requirements; validate outcomes with stakeholders and refine solutions.
  • Support deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and ongoing improvement of agents, pipelines, and integrations while balancing reliability, performance, usage cost, and maintainability.
  • Partner with security, compliance, and platform teams to implement appropriate access controls, data protection, logging, and safeguards for internal and client-facing AI solutions.
  • Maintain technical documentation for agent workflows, data pipelines, MCP interfaces, and integrations; contribute reusable code and shared engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with the AI & Data Solutions Manager and leadership to prioritize delivery, communicate progress and risks, and assess how solutions reduce manual effort and improve business and client outcomes.
