About The Position

This position will be housed at the Limestone County Extension Office and is a one-year limited term position, with continued employment based on the continuation of extramural funding and subject to renewal on an annual basis. The Alabama Cooperative Extension System seeks an Agent Assistant I/II – Parent Educator. The Parent Educator will be responsible for visiting families of unborn to five-year-old children in Limestone County, providing support to new parents. The visits will be on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis unless more time is needed. Parent Educators will assist parents in developing a better understanding of child development, establishing expectations, and gaining skills to support school readiness for their children. The Agent Assistant will have a 40-hour work week schedule and periodically provide evening and/or weekend hours.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience in the organization and/or presentation of pre-designed educational programs/services, customer service, administrative support/clerical or related experience (for Level I).
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of experience in the organization and/or presentation of pre-designed educational programs/services, customer service, administrative support/clerical or related experience (for Level II).
  • Degrees accepted in lieu of experience, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to selection.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the curriculum provided by the National Parents as Teachers Center and the local districts enhancements.
  • Serve up to 15 families with a minimum of 2 home visits per year per family.
  • A minimum of six parent group meetings per year.
  • Complete all required documentation regarding home visits, attendance records, for PAT events, screening summaries, and reports requested by the coordinator.
  • Actively recruit families to participate in the program.
  • Attend all required trainings for certification, in-service, and screenings.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings with supervisor, lead parent educator, and other parent educators.
  • Provide community support services to families as needed.
  • Requires visiting families in the homes and must be comfortable with delivering educational services in a nonjudgmental/strengths-based manner.
  • Must be well organized and be able to keep up with complicated timelines for screening and reporting.
  • Passion for job, upbeat, enthusiastic, team player.
  • Flexibility with respect to time and days to work (should be able to work some weekends and evenings when client schedules require it). Regular hours 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
