About The Position

The Maryland Veterans Trust Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and core program of the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families, provides one-time grant awards to assist veterans, surviving spouses, and members of the Maryland National Guard in overcoming financial hardships. The fund is governed by a Board of Trustees and funded through donations and state revenue. This position, located in Annapolis, MD, operates under the direction of the Maryland Veterans Trust Fund Director and is responsible for managing the digital grant application process. This includes receiving and reviewing applications, verifying information, approving microgrants, recommending larger grant awards, communicating with applicants, and referring them to community resources. The role also provides administrative support to the organizational grant process.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience in grant evaluation and monitoring or budget preparation, presentation and execution.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in grant evaluation and monitoring or budget preparation, presentation and execution for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute graduate education from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, political science or public administration at a rate of 30 credit hours for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Budget Officer classifications or Financial Management specialty codes in the Budgeting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years demonstrated experience utilizing Salesforce or equivalent cloud-based grant management software to receive, track, review, and evaluate financial assistance or grant applications.
  • Two years professional experience working directly with veterans, military service members, or their families, including a baseline understanding of the unique challenges and needs specific to the military community.
  • Two years experience reviewing financial documentation for accuracy, verifying eligibility criteria, and making independent or formal recommendations regarding the approval or denial of microgrants or larger monetary awards.
  • Strong experience in constituent services or community outreach, with proven experience identifying applicant needs and successfully connecting individuals to federal, state, or community-based partner organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Using Salesforce grant management software, receive, review, and evaluate grant applications.
  • Follow up with applicants to ensure all required documentation is received to process applications.
  • Award small microgrants and make recommendations on larger grants to the Veterans Trust Fund Director.
  • Communicate via email and phone with applicants about grant approvals or denials.
  • Make referrals to the Department of Veterans and Military Families Constituent Services Manager or Maryland Joins Forces partner organizations, federal and state government partners, etc. on behalf of applicants who request additional support beyond a Veterans Trust Fund grant.
  • Provide administrative support for Veterans Trust Fund organizational grant management including notice of funding availability preparation, application review, and grant award evaluation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
