About The Position

The Maryland Military Department (MMD) is looking for a candidate to fill the position of an Agency Budget Specialist I. This position will work on a compressed work schedule from 6:30 am to 5 pm, Tuesday through Friday. The main purpose of this position is to monitor the Army and Air Operations and Maintenance budgets. This position will assist with the preparation of federal funded program expenses, prepare vouchers, and work with the Cooperative Agreement Accountant. The Agency Budget Specialist will monitor program spending, resolve discrepancies, host monthly program reporting meetings, and evaluate budget modification proposals, while also having the ability to make program budget recommendations to the Fiscal Services Chief and Chief Financial Officer.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience in budget preparation, presentation and execution.
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in budget preparation, presentation and execution.
  • 30 credit hours of graduate education from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, political science or public administration.
  • U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Budget Officer classifications or Financial Management specialty codes in the Budgeting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • Possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland with less than 5 points to operate a state vehicle.
  • Common Access Card (CAC) required.
  • Ability to pass a Federal background check in addition to a State background to access the facilities and computer systems by being issued a CAC card.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access to the facility and CAC card is a condition of employment for this position.
  • Employees must be able to successfully complete a State and Federal background check.
