About The Position

BASIS Independent McLean is seeking a part-time After School Teacher for immediate hire. The teacher will plan and teach the daily after-school program from 2:00 to 6:00 PM, using subject expertise and positive energy to engage students in higher-level content than is typical for elementary students. The role involves creating an interactive learning environment, designing lessons and assessments, and helping students develop academically and personally. The teacher will work collaboratively with other teachers and contribute to a professional, collegial learning culture. Teaching supplies may be provided upon request, subject to budget.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in the subject area.
• Deep knowledge of and passion for the subject taught.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and engage students in rigorous content.
• Ability to create a positive classroom community and build relationships with students.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with students, colleagues, and parents.
• Openness to feedback and continuous growth.
• Creative instructional and classroom-management strategies.
• Cooperative, collaborative, supportive, and flexible approach.
• Strong work ethic and a “do whatever it takes” mindset.
• Ability to obtain a fingerprint clearance card.

Responsibilities

• Teach higher-level content than grade standards in an interactive learning environment.
• Instruct students in subject-specific knowledge and skills to support academic and career success.
• Design effective, creative lessons and assessments aligned with the BASIS Curriculum.
• Collaborate with other BASIS Curriculum Teachers in a professional academic environment.
• Guide student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect, and individuality.
• Plan and teach the daily after-school program from 2:00 to 6:00 PM.
