About The Position

BrightBee is seeking After-School Instructors to support a five-day-a-week YMCA program at elementary school sites in San Jose. The role involves leading engaging group activities, assisting students with homework, supervising children, supporting safe and positive behavior, and helping with daily program operations. Assignments may vary through BrightBee’s school partnerships. The position pays $26.50 per hour. Candidates must complete required school clearances at their own expense; the average clearance cost in California is $130.

Requirements

At least 48 college credits.
Pass a background check and Live Scan, and complete required school clearances and other applicable testing.
Follow safety, code-of-conduct, mandated-reporter training, and reporting requirements.
Provide authorization to contact former employers if requested.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods may be required, depending on the assignment.

Interest in building experience in education.

Responsibilities

Design and lead group activities, including physical education, team-building games, creative arts, and STEM projects.
Keep students engaged, encourage participation, and adapt activities to different age groups and energy levels.
Provide homework assistance and small-group tutoring, including support with core concepts, study skills, and assignments.
Supervise students during transitions, snack time, and recreational periods.
Use positive behavior management strategies to maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.
Follow program safety protocols and student check-out procedures.
Assist with attendance, activity-material preparation, and maintaining a clean environment.
Provide parents with brief, professional updates about student progress or behavior during pick-up.
