After School Homework & Activity Tutor - YCO (FALL 2026)
About The Position
The After-School Homework & Activity Tutor supports the academic, social, and personal development of youth participants in a safe and engaging after-school environment. This job assists the Youth Centers of Orange (YCO), a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the academic success, personal development, and well-being of youth through after-school programs, educational services, mentorship, and community engagement opportunities. For many Program staff, this is a first job – and we want it to be a meaningful one. YCO views this role not just as an after-school job, but as a calling: the chance to be the adult who helps a child feel known, safe, and able to grow.
Requirements
- LiveScan background check is required.
- Maintains professional behavior, dress and appearance at all times
- Attends meetings and trainings as requested
- Clears background investigation (i.e., DOJ, FBI, sex-offender registry, drug test, TB test) as applicable and in accordance with The HUB OC policies and procedures
- Must have availability between Monday-Fridays 1-6 p.m. and Wednesdays 11:30am-6 p.m.
Responsibilities
- Guide a small group of students through daily program stations/rotations (educational activities, games, sports, art, dance, recreation, etc.).
- Act as a life coach to your group – modeling good character, encouraging students, and building genuine relationships.
- Bring order, structure, and calm to group settings, redirecting behavior before it escalates.
- Ensure student safety and maintain active supervision of your group at all times.
- Oversee students’ needs, making sure they participate in activities and are involved in programming.
- Supervise students during meals/snacks and daily routines/cleanup tasks.
- Follow safety and emergency procedures and guidelines.
- Work one-on-one with students who need extra support or attention.
- Instruct and organize student projects (arts and crafts, dramatics, sports, STEM, etc.).
- Communicate effectively and courteously with students, families, and teammates.
- Meet attendance and punctuality requirements – your group depends on you being there.
- Complete the YCO Onboarding Quest and ongoing trainings.
- Know and comply with YCO policies and procedures.
- Support the vision and goals of YCO and The HUB OC.
- Other duties as assigned.
