Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within a designated timeframe.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and basic computer skills.
- Ability to supervise and positively engage children, exercise sound judgment, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, flexible, and available to work the assigned after-school schedule.
- Demonstrates professionalism and a commitment to the YWCA's mission, including fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable environment for all participants, families, and staff.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with school-age children in a childcare, education, recreation, or youth development setting preferred.
Responsibilities
- Supervise children in a safe, positive, and inclusive environment.
- Ensure the safety of children, staff, and facilities.
- Encourage appropriate behavior through positive reinforcement and consistent program expectations.
- Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios and respond to emergencies as needed.
- Assist the Lead Counselor and/or Director with daily program activities and operations.
- Actively engage with children to foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment.
- Prepare activity areas, materials, snacks, and assist with field trips and special events.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment.
- Protect participant confidentiality and complete required documentation.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with staff, children, families, and volunteers.
- Share relevant information with team members to ensure continuity of care and supervision.
- Contribute to a positive, supportive, and solution-oriented team environment.
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Support and uphold the YWCA mission, values, and policies.
- Represent the YWCA professionally within the community.
- Comply with YWCA policies and procedures.
- Support a collaborative, inclusive, and welcoming environment for children, families, and staff.
