About The Position
The Quincy Kroc Center is seeking energetic, caring individuals to serve as After School Counselors in our Kroc Academy program. This part-time role provides support during our after school program, helping create a safe, engaging environment where children can learn, play, and grow once the school day ends. If you enjoy working with children and want to make a positive impact in your community, this is a wonderful opportunity to be a mentor, role model, and trusted adult for local youth. Kroc Academy supports children during a critical part of the day - after school - by providing structure, encouragement, and enrichment in a welcoming environment. As an After School Counselor, you help foster confidence, creativity, and positive social connections while supporting each child's academic and personal development. Your presence helps ensure every child feels safe, valued, and encouraged.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older to meet childcare licensing requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Genuine interest in working with children and supporting their growth and development
- Strong communication skills with the ability to connect with children, families, and coworkers
- Patience, empathy, and flexibility in responding to varied learning and behavioral needs
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience in childcare, tutoring, education, or youth programs is preferred but not required
Responsibilities
- Assist students with homework and provide academic encouragement
- Plan and lead age-appropriate activities that promote social, emotional, and intellectual growth
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants
- Work collaboratively with other counselors to plan activities and themed projects
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding daily activities and student progress
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating respect, patience, and teamwork
- Assist with student transportation for school pick-ups (optional, for eligible staff over 21)
