About The Position

The Thomas F. Frist, Jr. College of Medicine at Belmont University is seeking community physicians and other professionals to serve as Affiliate Clinical Professors. This is a non-compensated affiliate faculty appointment for individuals who contribute periodically to the college of medicine’s educational mission, strictly through volunteerism. Ideal candidates are highly experienced retired or non-practicing physicians or advanced health care professionals enthusiastic about teaching, mentoring, role-modeling, and inspiring whole-person care. This appointment is not an employment relationship. Faculty activities may include, but are not limited to: Guest lectures, workshops, or small group facilitation. Simulation instruction or skills training sessions. Student mentorship (career advising, research guidance). Scholarly collaboration with FCoM students and faculty. Community engagement activities connected to the FCoM mission. Note: Clinicians whose primary role would be training and assessing students in clinical settings (clinical rotations, clerkships) should apply for the Clinical Faculty appointment instead. To complete the online application, candidates must submit a Curriculum Vitae and a brief statement describing how they would contribute to the FCoM mission statement. Appointments are for a one-year term, renewable after annual review and good standing. This appointment does not create an employment, agency, partnership, or joint-venture relationship with Belmont University. Affiliate Clinical Professors are not eligible for Belmont employee benefits, may not represent or bind the University, and must carry their own health insurance coverage. Appointments are subject to standard University credentialing and background check requirements. Appointments may be revoked at any time at the University’s discretion without cause and without notice.

Requirements

Knowledge of principles and practices in clinical medicine.
Expert level in history taking and physical examination skills.
Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with people of all types and varying levels.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
Extensive clinical experience in patient care and previous teaching, scholarship, or student mentoring experience.
Completion of a background check satisfactory to the University.
