The Aerospace Quality Engineer evaluates and appraises suppliers’ manufacturing capabilities against documented commodity checklists and quality management system (QMS) special-process requirements. The role establishes full-life-cycle part quality evaluation plans, from materials requests through receipt, and resolves and dispositions nonconforming materials while ensuring adequate corrective action. It is highly supplier-focused and requires strong oral and written communication to manage supplier quality assurance and support compliance across organizational levels on major programs from design through production. The engineer evaluates manufacturing functions, processes, inspection and testing methods, mechanisms, and equipment; conducts statistical analysis of products or materials that fail to meet standards; participates in QMS audits; and verifies corrective measures and documentation. It applies lean and Six Sigma quality engineering methods and requires hands-on knowledge of machine-shop mechanical components, assemblies, subsystems, and systems, with a strong emphasis on root cause and corrective action (RCCA) and corrective and preventive action (CAPA), FMEA, process improvement, and process standardization. The position typically works Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional extended hours and weekend overtime. Work takes place in typical office conditions with the quality management team, SMS team, and external customers. The role may involve supplier travel, including long-distance driving, and assigned physical activities.
