About The Position

Boeing is seeking PhD students for its exclusive Graduate Researcher Program (GRP) in Engineering & Technology Innovation (E&TI) during the Summer of 2027. E&TI is Boeing's global research and development team focused on developing and implementing innovative technologies for the future of aerospace. The GRP is a 10-12 week internship program designed for PhD students, offering a hybrid experience of real-world industry work and development programming. The program aims to deeply connect students to Boeing through work experience across multiple summers, with the potential for a full-time offer upon completion of academic studies. Host teams post intern requisitions aligned with Boeing’s strategic needs, matching them with top PhD talent. Interns gain meaningful, hands-on experience, applying their academic expertise to real-world industry challenges. GRP programming includes mentorship, Featured Speaker Talks, an in-person GRP Summit, an Innovation Challenge, and networking opportunities with peers, team members, and leadership. Work done at Boeing cannot contribute to a student's PhD thesis.

Requirements

  • Completed the first year of PhD studies by July 2027.
  • Pursuing a PhD in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Ability to work full-time for 10-12 weeks during Summer 2027.
  • Able to perform CFD applications and code developments.
  • Development of aerodynamic analysis and optimization tools and processes with the goal of increasing fidelity while reducing cycle time and cost.
  • Fundamental knowledge of computational fluid dynamics.
  • Background in a range of numerical methods appropriate for unstructured or structured grid CFD.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with a team or individually as required.
  • Capable of analyzing aerodynamic data: pressures, force & moment, flow-field.
  • Experience in scientific programming and code development (C, FORTRAN, and/or C++).
  • Experience with Linux/Unix.
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements (U.S. Person status required).

Nice To Haves

  • A strong fluid dynamics background is desired in compressible flows.

Responsibilities

  • Perform CFD applications and code developments.
  • Develop aerodynamic analysis and optimization tools and processes to increase fidelity while reducing cycle time and cost.
  • Analyze aerodynamic data, including pressures, force & moment, and flow-field.
  • Contribute to the development and application of advanced aerodynamic analysis tools and processes for a wide variety of flight platforms across various flight regimes.
