Hourly Student Employment - Adventure Leadership Assistants
About The Position
The ECU Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness (CRW) is seeking several Adventure Leadership Assistants to support adventure programs and operations. The role offers flexible hours and experience leading and facilitating adventure programs, while contributing to the well-being of the campus community through outdoor and adventure-based activities. CRW aims to create an environment of belonging and well-being and supports the Division of Student Affairs’ commitment to purposeful well-being. Adventure Leadership Assistants lead activities such as rock climbing, kayaking, and hiking; assist with planning and implementing trips and events; and help operate the Adventure Center and Rock-Climbing Wall. They support participant safety, equipment and facility upkeep, program promotion, equipment rentals, and customer service. The position requires obtaining belay certification through ECU’s climbing wall clinic within two weeks of hire.

Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate adventure programs such as rock climbing, kayaking, and hiking.
- Assist with planning and implementing adventure trips and events.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of participants.
- Maintain and inspect equipment and facilities.
- Promote CRW adventure programs and encourage student participation.
- Operate the Adventure Center and Rock-Climbing Wall.
- Belay, supervise participants, and enforce climbing wall policies.
- Create a welcoming and safe environment and provide exemplary customer service.
- Assist participants and trip staff with equipment selection and rentals.
- Load watercraft onto vehicles for participant and program use.
- Offer guidance and resources for outdoor recreation activities.
- Attend all training and perform other duties as assigned.
