Advanced Step Apprentice/Journeyman Gas Technician - Faribault, MN
About The Position
Xcel Energy is seeking one or more Advanced Step Gas Technician Apprentice/Journeyman Gas Technicians to be located at their Faribault Service Center in Faribault, MN. This position requires the successful applicant to reside within 20 miles of the Faribault Service Center. The job involves district regulator maintenance, odorization, meter testing, instrument calibration, meter and large regulator sizing/maintenance/installation, plastic pipe fusion, service regulators, odorization, meter and regulation, tapping, operational surveys, customer priority work, fitting, equipment operation, and responding to gas leak investigations/emergencies. It also includes gas leak repair, cathodic protection, locating, meter reading, valve maintenance, and material handling.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a Class A commercial driver’s license (must meet driver qualification requirements as specified in FMCSR Parts 382 and 391)
- One or more years’ Gas Construction and/or Gas Service experience
- Journeyman-level requires three or more years of experience as a Gas Technician
- Ability to lift 50 pounds safely
- Must reside within a 20-mile radius of the Faribault Service Center
- Must Meet Operator Qualification requirements
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships in a team-oriented environment
- Pass the Gas Respirator Qualification test
- Subject to residency requirements and on-call duty on a rotating basis
- May require rotating or off shift working hours
Nice To Haves
- Gas Technician experience preferred
- Certified in plastic fusion per Xcel Energy requirements within 6 months of hire
- Direct customer contact experience desirable
