Requirements

  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • Current Minnesota RN license and current certification as Nurse Practitioner (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a practicing NP
  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program (for Physician Assistant)
  • Minimum of three years' experience as a practicing Physician Assistant
  • Current MN state licensure and current CPR certification required
  • Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiologic and psychological effect of a cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment strongly preferred

  • Prefer previous experience in oncology (for Nurse Practitioner)
  • Prefer previous experience in oncology (for Physician Assistant)

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care for patients.
  • Initiates and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family response and prescribes therapies as indicated.
  • Performs procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Assesses patient/family needs and provides education.
  • Promotes wellness and recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Often incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice.
  • Solid knowledge of reimbursement procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Completes patient charge capture and medical record documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Likely to provide case management for patients and their families.
  • Sometimes serves as a resource for nursing staff by providing information being studied in clinical trials.
  • May provide palliative care for the patient and their families as needed.
  • May promote/provide staff education.
  • Responsibilities may include rounding at affiliated hospitals, weekend or after-hour calls.
  • May mentor new advanced practice providers.
  • May precept APP students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
