About The Position

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for accomplished mathematics researchers experienced in research-level problem authoring, proof construction, proof verification, formalization, conjecture exploration, and advanced mathematical reasoning evaluation. This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on advanced mathematical reasoning, research-grade problem design, proof review, model output evaluation, formalization tasks, and high-quality project execution. Selected professionals will apply frontier-level mathematical judgment to author and review challenging problems, evaluate complex reasoning, and identify subtle mathematical errors that require working researcher-level expertise.

Requirements

  • Strong candidates may have: Active or recent research role as a PhD candidate, postdoc, instructor, faculty member, principal researcher, industry research mathematician, or comparable contributor.
  • Deep research expertise in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematical physics, theoretical computer science, statistics, or a related field.
  • Strong publication record, especially in leading mathematics journals, top specialty journals, or top-tier adjacent venues.
  • Doctoral or postdoctoral training at a highly regarded mathematics, STEM, or theoretical research institution.
  • Research honors, fellowships, grants, competition distinctions, or comparable signals of exceptional mathematical depth.
  • Ability to evaluate complex proofs and identify subtle mathematical issues quickly.
  • Excellent written communication skills and strong attention to detail.
  • PhD, advanced doctoral training, postdoctoral experience, or equivalent research output in mathematics or a closely related field is strongly preferred.
  • Outstanding senior PhD students and recent graduates with strong publication records may also be a strong fit.
  • Research backgrounds in number theory, algebra, algebraic geometry, topology, analysis, PDEs, probability, combinatorics, dynamical systems, logic, representation theory, mathematical physics, theoretical computer science, or statistics are highly relevant.

Nice To Haves

  • First-author, sole-author, or otherwise substantial research publications in highly selective mathematics or adjacent research venues.
  • Competitive fellowships, research awards, named grants, olympiad-level distinctions, Putnam-level distinctions, or comparable research signals.
  • Experience reviewing proofs, supervising research, designing advanced mathematical problems, or evaluating formal reasoning.
  • Familiarity with proof formalization, mathematical logic, proof assistants, or structured mathematical verification workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Research-Level Mathematics Problem Authoring: Author challenging mathematics problems across pure mathematics, applied mathematics, theoretical computer science, statistics, or adjacent research areas.
  • Develop tasks involving proof construction, proof verification, problem-solving, formalization, and conjecture exploration.
  • Create materials that require research-level mathematical reasoning rather than textbook-level pattern recognition.
  • Design problems with clear expected reasoning paths, rigorous standards, and high technical depth.
  • Proof Review & Mathematical Output Evaluation: Evaluate mathematical outputs for correctness, rigor, clarity, and completeness.
  • Identify subtle errors such as unjustified steps, misapplied hypotheses, hand-waved lemmas, invalid reductions, or plausible but incorrect proofs.
  • Assess whether proposed arguments meet the standards of working research mathematics.
  • Provide structured feedback explaining mathematical strengths, weaknesses, and required corrections.
  • Research Calibration & Quality Review: Collaborate with a small program team and other senior contributors on task quality and difficulty calibration.
  • Review evaluation materials for consistency, rigor, and research relevance.
  • Help surface areas where current mathematical reasoning systems fail.
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, precision, and intellectual integrity across submitted work.

Benefits

  • Competitive hourly compensation
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Remote structure
