Requirements

  • College diploma (DCS) in electronics technology (audiovisual, telecommunications or computing systems option) or a relevant field.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience are required given the multidisciplinary environment and the variety of equipment.
  • English (Reading - B - Intermediate), English (Speaking - B - Intermediate), English (Writing - B - Intermediate)
  • French (Reading - C - Advanced), French (Speaking - C - Advanced), French (Writing - C - Advanced)

Responsibilities

  • Develop standards, methods and procedures that optimize use of production and broadcasting systems/equipment, as well as simplify maintenance.
  • Step in during power outages or to deal with major issues that involve more complex action than standard production and broadcasting system/equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and reconditioning, in a multidisciplinary environment that includes networking, optics, electronics, computer systems, mechanics, machining, welding, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Design, draft, organize and deliver technical training courses or seminars.
  • Develop and recommend work procedures, methods and standards to meet or exceed operational requirements for optimal use and better maintenance of production and broadcasting systems/equipment as well as the manufacture and machining of parts and tools; co-ordinate their application with maintenance technicians.
  • Advise others on installing, commissioning and using production and broadcasting systems/equipment.
  • Plan, co-ordinate, assign, review and monitor project work performed by technicians reporting to you, advising the technicians as needed.
  • Respond to outages or major incidents that involve more complex action than standard production and broadcasting system/equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and reconditioning.
  • Determine needs and draft quality control procedures; establish the operational frequency and gauge results.
  • Evaluate performance and ensure serviceability of equipment and systems before purchase, after installation or during commissioning and report your findings.
  • Design, draft, organize and deliver technical training courses or seminars and guide workers in performing their duties.
  • Co-ordinate, review and assess the work of trainees and report on their progress.
  • Design, administer and grade tests for technical staff and job applicants; check, assess and report on their competence.
  • Design and draft documents (such as reference or training manuals) and technical procedures; catalogue and update these materials and ensure their availability.
  • Evaluate existing equipment and produce detailed reports on their maintenance or short/long-term replacement.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies with an eye to applying them to resolve issues that arise.
  • Develop and document new technical modules and subsystems with a view to modifying or adapting existing equipment, meeting routine and specific production/broadcasting requirements, and mitigating gaps.
  • Ensure, when commissioning new equipment and systems, that you have all necessary components for their maintenance, including documentation and toolsets; make recommendations to this effect.
  • Complete the appropriate forms and documents; convey information in person or in writing to ensure proper follow-up and keep others informed.
  • Familiarize other employees with their duties and the work environment.
  • Carry out, as needed, all or part of the duties of another job classification within an equivalent or lower salary group, as well as other related duties.
  • Reports to the appropriate supervisor or other persons as assigned.
  • Plans, coordinates, distributes, reviews and controls the work of technicians under his responsibility.
