Advanced Laboratory Assistant - Microbiology 3rd Shift
About The Position
This full-time position operates on the 3rd shift (21:30-08:00) for 4 days a week, including rotating Saturdays. The Advanced Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for accurately accessioning and registering specimens for processing and testing, maintaining high quality and productivity, and following designated procedures for labeling and processing. This role also involves preparing solutions, reagents, and supplies, operating laboratory equipment, answering phones, and adhering to College of American Pathologists (CAP) requirements. The work environment involves biohazardous materials, chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards, and may require stooping, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, and standing or walking for extended periods.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Works in a busy environment around physicians, technologists, and other hospital team member.
- Works in an area, which contains biohazardous (infectious) materials along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards.
- May be required to stoop, reach and lift light (20 pound) to moderately heavy (50 pound) loads.
- May be required to stand and or walk for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities
- Accurately accessions and registers specimens for processing and testing.
- Maintains high quality and productivity as required by department.
- Follows designated procedures for labeling and processing; sort and deliver specimens to technical areas as assigned.
- Prepares solutions, reagents and supplies as assigned.
- Operates all necessary equipment in designated laboratory.
- Answers phone and paging system as needed.
- Follows College of American Pathologists (CAP) requirements.
