Advanced ATE Software Engineer

Honeywell Aerospace•Richardson, TX
•Hybrid

About The Position

As an Advanced Test Engineer at Honeywell Aerospace, you will advance the quality and reliability of aerospace products by developing and executing sophisticated test plans and procedures. You will develop test solutions for Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs), analyze detailed test requirements, and design Automated Test Equipment (ATE) systems to customer specifications. The role includes creating test strategies, acceptance procedures, and design verification processes. You will enhance team test capabilities by planning, coordinating, and developing custom test equipment, including test fixtures. You will set up, calibrate, validate, and troubleshoot RF test systems and complex assemblies to achieve accurate, repeatable measurements. You will also develop and maintain automated test software, integrating instrumentation and databases to support scalable, high-throughput testing. Additional work includes troubleshooting and failure analysis for MMIC devices and RF assemblies, conducting product qualification and environmental stress testing, generating technical reports, managing test data systems, and supporting laboratory operations such as asset tracking and equipment maintenance. Precision microscope work for inspection, assembly support, and failure analysis is required. The role is based in Richardson, Texas, on a hybrid schedule and reports to the Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • At least 5 years of RF experience specific to ATE for RF/microwave components, including component development and testing and building rack-and-stack test equipment.
  • At least 3 years of test software development experience, including LabVIEW, Python, MSQL, C, and C++.
  • At least 2 years of experience in manufacturing or a high-tech electronics industry.
  • At least 2 years of experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including SharePoint and Excel.
  • Must be a U.S. person, defined as a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or person with protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status.
  • Ability to perform precision work under a microscope.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience developing ATE software and operating RF test equipment, including wafer probe stations, VNAs, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power supplies, and RF calibration standards.
  • Strong RF characterization expertise for GaN/GaAs MMICs, including S-parameters, large-signal, two-tone, and stability testing through Ka-band.
  • Proficiency interpreting schematics and technical drawings and applying electronics and microwave theory fundamentals.
  • Hands-on experience with RF test fixtures, PCB design and assembly, and wire bonding MMIC devices for test readiness.
  • Ability to perform precision work under a microscope with sub-micron geometries.
  • Familiarity with DoD/military qualification and testing standards.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work cross-functionally and independently with accountability and initiative.
  • Adaptability, problem-solving, continuous improvement, organizational, and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain automated ATE test software using LabVIEW, Python, C, C++, Visual Basic, and other industry-standard test development tools.
  • Analyze customer specifications to define MMIC test requirements, configurations, and acceptance criteria.
  • Develop and implement test plans, including ATE configurations, fixtures, and software and hardware interfaces.
  • Perform RF characterization of MMIC and semiconductor devices, including S-parameters, output power, noise figure, and two-tone measurements.
  • Set up, calibrate, and execute RF test systems and on-wafer probe testing using appropriate standards.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose complex RF circuits independently using microwave theory.
  • Conduct statistical analysis and generate technical reports on test results and performance.
  • Manage laboratory operations, including test databases, equipment calibration, asset tracking, and vendor procurement support.
  • Perform failure analysis and root-cause investigations for MMIC devices and RF assemblies.
  • Execute product qualification and environmental stress testing to meet industry standards.
