About The Position

The University of Maine at Fort Kent is seeking to hire an Admissions Recruiter. The Admissions Recruiter is responsible for the recruitment and evaluation of students within a designated recruitment territory. The primary responsibility is marketing the University’s academic programs to students from high schools and technical high schools through presentations, personal visits, telephone, text messaging and e-mail communications. This position is also responsible for overseeing the student ambassador program, which involves, managing the visit schedule and training and supervising student staff. Responsibilities further include running reports under the direction of the Director of Admissions. In addition, the counselor will also participate in recruitment activities on campus including but not limited to; personal interviews and tours, Open Houses, Admitted Student Days, Summer Institutes, and may represent the University at various other campus and community functions as assigned. Evening and weekend hours and extensive travel in and out of state are required. This position works closely with all members of the Admissions team and maintains relationships with faculty and enrollment-related offices and staff, in particular acting as the liaison between the Admissions Office and Athletic Staff. In addition, this position will maintain relations with school counseling throughout their designated recruitment territories.

Requirements

  • Associates degree and required knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above.
  • Extensive overnight travel (roughly 50% of the time) that will frequently require being away from home for long periods of time.
  • Working and driving for extended periods of time and ability to load, unload, transport and assemble display materials.
  • Valid, unrestricted state driver's license and ability to travel internationally
  • Strong planning and communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to positively represent the University of Maine at Fort Kent to the public at large.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, including public speaking skills; able to work independently and as a member of a team; high level of initiative; outstanding organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects/deadlines; an outgoing, positive, professional manner; ability to connect, motivate, and inspire people, especially youth; perseverance; attention to detail; excellent organizational skills; ability to relate to a diverse pool of prospective college students with tact, diplomacy and discretion; and computer literacy required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the admissions process, proficiency in a foreign language (other than English) and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and relational databases preferred.
  • Related enrollment management, sales or marketing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit freshmen by effectively managing geographic territories, scheduling and performing recruitment presentations at schools, college fairs or other appropriate locations and events; and conducting informational meetings and interviews.
  • Provide educational counseling and advising to prospective traditional and non-traditional; undergraduate and graduate students and their families.
  • Rate prospective students according to the likelihood of their eventual enrollment and effectively guide prospective students through the application process from inquiry to enrollment.
  • Manage administrative time to include developing and maintaining a travel schedule that supports the marketing initiatives, data entry of contacts (inquiries and prospective students) in appropriate electronic databases, conferring with admissions staff, and restocking of travel materials.
  • Performing virtual recruitment presentations and events.
  • Run regular and ad hoc reports under the guidance of the Director of Admissions
  • Maintain sufficient office hours to function as an active, informed member of the UMFK staff.
  • Coordinate regular contact with prospective students with appropriate faculty members and administrators.
  • Other similar duties as assigned.
