About The Position

Duke Divinity School is seeking an Admissions Officer I to join their collaborative and mission-driven Recruitment and Admissions team. This role is central to welcoming and guiding future students as they discern a call to theological education and ministry. The Admissions Officer I will represent Duke Divinity School to prospective students nationally and internationally, share the school's programs, and help translate curiosity into enrollment. The position involves building relationships with prospective students, interpreting admissions processes, and partnering with colleagues, faculty, alumni, churches, and denominational leaders. This role is ideal for someone energized by travel, relationship-building, and supporting students during vocational discernment, combining administrative, communication, and ministry-oriented interests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the college or graduate student experience and student life.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with diverse audiences in written, verbal, and face-to-face settings.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively for recruitment and outreach activities.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree, preferably in theology, religion, or a related field.
  • One to two years of experience in admissions, recruitment, student services, or a related field, preferably within a theological seminary, divinity school, or higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the diversity of Christian denominations and ecclesial traditions.

Responsibilities

  • Represent Duke Divinity School at recruitment and outreach events including on-campus visit days, campus visits, theology fairs, denominational discernment events, webinars, and receptions, effectively communicating the academic, formational, and vocational distinctives of the School.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with prospective students and applicants throughout the admissions cycle using timely, professional, and creative outreach through email, phone, virtual platforms, and in-person interactions.
  • Evaluate applications for admission, applying established admissions criteria and standards, preparing recommendations regarding admissibility, and contributing to enrollment decision-making.
  • Manage recruitment strategies and enrollment goals by monitoring inquiry, applicant, and yield data; implementing targeted action plans; and collaborating with admissions leadership to meet strategic enrollment objectives.
  • Support and lead special initiatives such as on-campus or virtual events, communications projects, yield activities for admitted students, and special projects aligned with the mission and objectives of the Office of Recruitment and Admissions.
