About The Position

The Student Assistant position provides administrative, instructional, mentoring, or specialized support while offering educational and career growth. Student assistants provide customer service to students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors; support colleagues; maintain regular attendance and punctuality; complete required training and professional development; and support the College’s mission, values, goals, and principles. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor. In the Administrative Support role, the student provides clerical and administrative support to a college department to help ensure efficient daily office operations and develop professional office skills. Duties may include answering phones, greeting visitors, handling mail and small packages, entering data, maintaining records and databases, organizing documents, scheduling appointments and meetings, preparing and proofreading documents, assisting with office supplies, supporting departmental events and projects, and protecting confidential information. Departments may include Career Services, Advising and Counseling, Student Life, the Library, Financial Aid, Student Support Services, Success Coaching, and the Food Pantry or Basic Needs Office. Student assistants may instead be placed in Instructional Support or Specialized Support roles. Instructional Support assists with academic labs, classrooms, course materials, tutoring, and instructional technology. Specialized Support involves department-specific projects, research, data or technical tasks, specialized equipment or software, and support for presentations, workshops, and campus events. Applicants must meet federal or Texas work-study eligibility requirements, including enrollment and academic progress requirements. The work schedule is part-time and flexible, typically up to 19.5 hours per week, coordinated with the department supervisor and the student’s academic schedule. All positions are considered on-site; after six months, some may be eligible to apply for a hybrid arrangement, subject to responsibilities, operational needs, supervisor approval, and College policy.
