About The Position

The NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development (HPD) is dedicated to promoting quality and affordability in the city's housing, fostering neighborhood diversity and strength, and ensuring every New Yorker has a safe, affordable place to live. HPD focuses on maintaining building and resident safety and health, creating housing affordability opportunities, and engaging New Yorkers to build and sustain neighborhood strength. This role supports the Office of Enforcement and Neighborhood Services (OENS), which works with partners to identify distressed buildings, develop strategies to address them, and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations through various divisions, including the Division of Code Enforcement (DCE).

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to '1' or '2' above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in '1' above.

  • Proficiency with PC software applications, such as Excel and Microsoft Word.

Responsibilities

  • Review and process Mold Documents, Lead Documents, Notice of Violations, and Dismissal.
  • Process Environment Control Board (ECB) violations issued by HPD.
  • Answer phones and respond to inquiries regarding inspection appointments.
  • Communicate with the public on sensitive matters regarding Housing Maintenance Code.
  • Update and retrieve documents and violations related to data in HPD Info and other database systems.
  • Prepare evaluation reports, perform analysis and review program plans, and other miscellaneous office-related functions.
  • Conduct special projects and assignments as directed.
  • Monitor performance reports.
  • Provide assistance to staff in techniques of program implementation and management.
  • Maintain and file documents in 1401 files.
