About The Position

This position works closely with the Chair and other department staff to assist with the administrative functions in the Accounting Department at Tennessee Tech. The role is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the College of Business Accounting Department front office, which may include supervising student workers, answering department phone calls, sending email messages, and referring questions to the appropriate offices. The coordinator will also assist with scheduling appointments for the department chair and faculty, and help students, faculty, and advisors with various academic matters such as issuing permits, drop-add requests, course substitutions, and registration. Additionally, the role involves working with other departments to input classes into CourseDog and schedule classrooms, preparing travel claims, personnel entries, financial components, and reconciling monthly expenditures in conjunction with the Dean’s office. Maintaining departmental faculty academic and employment files, and assisting the Accounting Department Chair in planning and executing special events are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of recent experience in a clerical or secretarial capacity
  • Ability to type accurately
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of business English
  • Ability to coordinate professional meetings
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff and students
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to establish and maintain adequate filing system
  • Ability to operate office equipment
  • Experience with computer and office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to compose non-routine replies independently
  • Ability to proofread draft copies of correspondence and reports

Responsibilities
