About The Position

This position involves assisting with administrative functions in the Accounting Department at Tennessee Tech. The role is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the College of Business Accounting Department front office, which includes supervising student workers, handling inquiries via phone and email, and referring questions to the appropriate offices. The position also assists with scheduling appointments for the department chair and faculty, and supports students, faculty, and advisors with academic matters such as issuing permits, drop-add requests, course substitutions, and registration. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with other departments to input classes into CourseDog and schedule classrooms, preparing travel claims, personnel entries, financial components, and reconciling monthly expenditures with the Dean’s office. Maintaining departmental faculty academic and employment files, and assisting the Accounting Department Chair with special events and other assigned duties are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of recent experience in a clerical or secretarial capacity.
  • Ability to type accurately.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of business English.
  • Ability to coordinate professional meetings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an adequate filing system.
  • Ability to operate office equipment.
  • Experience with computer and office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to compose non-routine replies independently.
  • Ability to proofread draft copies of correspondence and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the College of Business Accounting Department front office.

  • Referring questions to the appropriate offices.
  • Assisting with scheduling appointments for the department chair and faculty.
  • Assisting students, faculty, and advisors with student-related academic matters, including issuing permits, drop-add requests, course substitutions, and registration.
  • Working with other departments to input classes into CourseDog and schedule classrooms.
  • Coordinating with the Dean’s office to prepare travel claims, personnel entries, financial components, and reconcile monthly expenditures.
  • Maintaining departmental faculty academic and employment files.
  • Assisting the Accounting Department Chair in planning and execution of special events.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
