About The Position

The Division of Administrative Law (DAL) is Louisiana’s centralized administrative hearings panel, providing fair, prompt, and orderly adjudication for disputes between state agencies and the public. The Administrative Program Specialist A position will serve as the chief scheduler and scheduling subject matter specialist for certain specified divisions of DAL. This role involves scheduling administrative hearings for specific divisions or sections of DAL, coordinating schedules with approximately twenty (20) attorney administrative law judges and a deputy general counsel. The ideal candidate should possess strong competencies in accepting direction, demonstrating accountability, driving results, following policies and procedures, making accurate judgments, managing resources, communicating effectively, focusing on customers, and managing time.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in administrative services; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working for a judge or in a clerk of court’s office
  • Experience working for an agency that conducts administrative hearings
  • Experience in a legal setting (for example: a law firm)
  • A paralegal certificate

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating program information by maintaining databases, generating reports, and ensuring information integrity.
  • Relaying information to others about their subject areas in training or presentations.
  • Coordinating statewide schedules among all program areas and the various offices, ensuring that personnel for both DAL and the respective agency are available.
  • Coordinating workflow, providing technical assistance, answering questions, resolving problems, and determining further actions to be taken with regard to administrative hearings and appeals.
  • Coordinating the scheduling and calendaring of status conferences and hearings.
  • Preparing and sending notices to parties.
  • Exercising judgment on the rescheduling of matters within established guidelines.
  • Potentially traveling to hearings statewide and staying overnight if needed.
