About The Position

The Mission of the Ohio Department of Commerce is promoting prosperity by protecting what matters most. As the state’s chief regulator, the Department of Commerce impacts Ohioans every day. We ensure compliance through proactive outreach, education, and customer-focused service. Commerce is comprised of eight operating divisions and one standalone program that span a variety of industries including real estate, liquor, banking, securities, firefighting, construction and skilled trades, and cannabis. Through exceptional compliance practices and oversight, Commerce has a direct role in protecting Ohioans. The division of Industrial Compliance and its associated boards ensure Ohioans are safe in public buildings such as businesses, educational institutions and municipal buildings. This includes drafting and applying the Ohio Building Code; conducting appeal hearings; issuing variances to code requirements; licensing commercial contractors; inspecting boilers, elevators and bedding; and regulating ski tramways. The division has responsibility for portions of the Manufactured Homes Program, and licenses installers and parks. The division also oversees Ohio’s minimum wage, prevailing wage and minor labor law programs.

Requirements

  • 18 mos. exp. or 18 mos. trg. in secretarial/administrative professional field.
  • Or completion of associate core coursework in secretarial science or business office applications from accredited career school or community college.
  • Or 6 mos. exp. as Administrative Professional 1, 16871.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Provide phone, email, mail, and system based routine, and non-routine, direct customer service related to regulatory, permitting, invoicing, inspection, certification and fiscal and technical issues for internal and external customers.
  • Work in internal database system (AMANDA) in conjunction with external submission system (IC Portal), process applications under our review purview and provide customer support related to those reviews ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Work in cross functional team addressing needs of various programmatic areas to ensure legal and administrative requirements are met, and, working with peers and supervisor, correct issues of varying complexity when necessary.
  • Assist with special projects as directed
  • Other duties as assigned
