About The Position

This position supports over 200 employees and a $44 million budget through financial management, procurement, and personnel actions. The role involves collaborating with another Administrative Officer 1 to manage approximately 100 positions each and providing backup support. The position contributes to high-impact areas such as the Commissioner’s Office and the IT section. The Department of Health's mission is to advance the health, well-being, and independence of Alaskans, and this role directly supports that mission by guiding resources for lifesaving programs. After completing the probationary period, employees are eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with the option to work remotely for up to two days per week. Requirements

  • Competency in Administration and Management: Knowledge of planning, coordination, and execution of business functions, resource allocation, and production.
  • Competency in Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Competency in Financial Management: Prepares, justifies, and/or administers the budget for program areas; plans, administers, and monitors expenditures to ensure cost-effective support of programs and policies; assesses financial condition of an organization.
  • Competency in Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information effectively to individuals or groups, considering the audience and nature of the information; makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others and responds appropriately.
  • Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or experience providing administrative support to a business or organization, business administration, public administration, finance, banking, accounting, industrial relations, marketing, human resource management, logistics and supply chain management, or a similar business field.
  • Application must support how competencies have been gained through work history, volunteer experience, training, education, licenses, or certifications.
