About The Position

The Office of the Jury Commissioner (OJC) is dedicated to providing randomly selected pools of eligible jurors, representative of the community, to all jury courts in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The OJC aims to educate the public on the importance of jury service and to offer courteous, professional service to the public and the courts. This position supervises staff in an assigned office and performs administrative work to support office operations. It provides administrative support and assistance to those within the department and/or the general public, leads the unit's day-to-day operations, and takes a leading role in developing new programs and projects. The role involves entering, maintaining, and managing data, documents, and records, and may include responsibilities related to hiring, training, and other human resources tasks.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Four (4) years of related work experience
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered for meeting minimum qualifications.
  • Demonstrates ability with MS Office and other business technologies
  • Ability to properly support the administration of departmental policies, procedures, and initiatives in a unionized employee environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides project management and oversees special initiatives within the division.
  • Supports a variety of hiring activities conducted by the Human Resources Department.
  • Participates in all activities related to development, implementation, and subsequent monitoring of operations and projects.
  • Performs administrative tasks as assigned, including document editing, taking meeting minutes, answering telephones, preparing reports, etc.
  • Prepares complex and detailed documents.
  • Maintains department records and drafts routine correspondence.
  • Analyzes statistics and develops new databases to assist in administration of programs.
  • Prepares reports on various administrative activities.
  • Acts as a liaison and provides technical advice to other offices, departments, the public, and outside agencies.
  • Participates in the development of operating policies, procedures, and forms.
  • Provides assistance in the hiring, onboarding, and training process of lower level employees.
  • Performs other duties as required.
