About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented, and service-driven professional to join their team as an Administrative Assistant 1/Residential Desk Services Lead within Residential Life, Housing, and Food Services. This position serves as the primary overnight point of contact for residential service desk operations, supporting the safety, security, and customer service needs of the residential community. The role is critical in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment while providing front-line customer service, administrative support, and guidance to student staff, ensuring continuity of operations during overnight hours. The primary purpose of this position is to provide safety, security, support, and service to the residential community during the overnight shift from midnight to 8:00 a.m. This role also provides additional administrative support to the Administrative Assistant 2 and Administrative Assistant 3 positions, including but not limited to resident and key audits, student account charges, calendar scheduling, and special projects as assigned. In addition, this position serves as a resource and point of contact for student staff in situations that do not require escalation to an on-call staff member. The ideal candidate will be dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering excellent customer service during non-traditional hours. PER EXECUTIVE ORDER 2026-001, ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL JUNE 30, 2026.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one (1) year of clerical experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records, answering telephones, and reviewing forms, documents and other written materials; OR Six (6) months of experience as an Administrative Aid in Nevada State service; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
  • Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in housing operations, residential life, or similar service environments.
  • Familiarity with service desk operations, housing systems, and supporting community standards is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor residential facilities to ensure a safe and secure environment
  • Enforce policies and respond to safety or security concerns appropriately
  • Serve as the overnight point of contact and support student staff as needed
  • Conduct building rounds and document incidents or concerns
  • Manage equipment check-outs, key distribution, and package processing using housing systems
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation
  • Provide front-line customer service, answering questions and assisting residents and guests
  • Support audits, inventory tracking, scheduling, and other administrative functions
  • Provide guidance and support to student employees during shifts
  • Assist with training, scheduling support, and payroll/timekeeping processes as needed
  • Collaborate with professional staff and campus partners, including University of Nevada Police Department and Facilities
