About The Position

The Desk Assistant (DA) for Housing and Residential Communities works scheduled desk hours previously negotiated with the Desk Manager. Provides customer service and conducts administrative tasks for residents, parents, faculty, staff, administration, and UA community members. Additional duties as assigned by supervising personnel.

Requirements

  • Current full-time University of Alabama student for Fall 2026.
  • Good judicial, financial, and academic standing as defined by the University and the college in which the Desk Assistant is enrolled.
  • Ability to work overnight and weekend hours throughout the semester.
  • Must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters.
  • Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment.
  • Final candidate(s) must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation and information obtained from social media and other internet sources.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to work during break periods; i.e. any state sponsored holidays, or special campus closings, etc.
  • Ability to work during special campus events, catastrophic weather, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Provides customer service and conducts administrative tasks for residents, parents, faculty, staff, administration, and UA community members.
  • Attend all departmental and area training sessions and workshops.
  • Dress appropriately for the position at all times.
  • Arrive on time for all desk shifts.
  • Refrain from engaging in and propagating gossip regarding any information received as a function of their desk position.
  • Be attentive to your desk duties at all times, refraining from sleeping while at work, leaving the desk unattended, or engaging in continuous conversation with friends or on cell phones.
  • Serve as a role model to residents.
  • Adhere and enforce all HRC policies and UA Student Code of Conduct.
