About The Position

Adjunct Teaching position in the School of Family Life, specifically for SFL 306: Pediatric Bereavement, Death and Dying. This role involves teaching a 3-credit, semester class to approximately 40 undergraduate students. The course focuses on personal and societal views of death and dying, end-of-life care principles, and patient-centered approaches. The position requires the successful candidate to relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of their employment. Requirements

  • A Masters or PhD in Human Development, Family Studies, Marriage and Family Therapy or related field is required.
  • The required degree must be completed by the start date.
  • Must attach updated curriculum vitae, cover letter, and Mission Alignment Statement to the faculty application.
  • Must relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of employment.
  • All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.
  • All employees are required to abide by the university's Honor Code and Dress & Grooming Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a 3-credit, semester class on Wednesdays 2:00-4:50 pm to about 40 undergraduate students in the School of Family Life.
  • Ensure students can articulate their personal views and attitudes toward death and dying by the end of the semester.
  • Ensure students can identify societal and cultural attitudes toward death by the end of the semester.
  • Ensure students can describe guiding principles of end-of-life care by the end of the semester.
  • Ensure students can distinguish between the medical model & patient-centered approach to dying by the end of the semester.
  • Ensure students can describe and evaluate factors that influence patient preferences in end-of-life care by the end of the semester.
  • Support and contribute to the academic and religious missions of the university within the context of the principles and doctrines of the affiliated church.
