About The Position

Texas A&M University–Kingsville (TAMUK) invites applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor of Music Theory and Ear Training. This position involves teaching undergraduate lower-level music theory/ear-training courses as needed by the School of Music, with a teaching load of up to 15 credit hours.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the field of music from a regionally accredited institution or university required.
  • Strong teaching ability in Ear-training and Music Theory.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate Degree in Music
  • Prior experience teaching music theory/ear-training classes at the collegiate level.
  • Master’s degree in music theory, or a related field (ABD or PhD preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Teach classes according to assigned proficiency levels.
  • Mentor and advise students regarding academic progress, performance development, and professional goals.
  • Collaborate closely with other music theory/ear-training professors, particularly in syllabus alignment and exam scheduling across multiple sections.
  • Maintain scheduled Student Success hours in accordance with university policies (as assigned).
  • Perform additional instructional duties as assigned.
  • Collaborate with faculty on departmental coordination (e.g., aligned syllabi and shared exam schedules).
  • Maintain Student Success hours in support of student retention and academic success.
  • Perform additional service duties as assigned, depending on departmental needs and availability.
