About The Position

Texas A&M University–Kingsville (TAMUK) invites applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor of Music Theory and Ear Training. This position involves teaching undergraduate lower-level music theory/ear-training courses as needed by the School of Music, with a teaching load of up to 15 credit hours. TAMUK is the oldest institution of higher learning in South Texas and a proud member of the Texas A&M University System. Requirements

  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the field of music from a regionally accredited institution or university.
  • Strong teaching ability in Ear-training and Music Theory.
  • Strong interest in teaching music theory/ear-training to first and second-year music majors.
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with a strong commitment to student success.
  • This position is security sensitive.
  • This position will require export-control authorization prior to starting employment.
  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.
  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate Degree in Music.
  • Prior experience teaching music theory/ear-training classes at the collegiate level.
  • Master’s degree in music theory, or a related field (ABD or PhD preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Teach classes according to assigned proficiency levels.
  • Mentor and advise students regarding academic progress, performance development, and professional goals.
  • Collaborate closely with other music theory/ear-training professors, particularly in syllabus alignment and exam scheduling across multiple sections.
  • Maintain scheduled Student Success hours in accordance with university policies (as assigned).
  • Perform additional instructional duties as assigned.
  • Collaborate with faculty on departmental coordination (e.g., aligned syllabi and shared exam schedules).
  • Maintain Student Success hours in support of student retention and academic success.
  • Perform additional service duties as assigned, depending on departmental needs and availability.
