About The Position
The Department of Literature, Journalism, Writing, and Languages at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) is seeking candidates for an adjunct teaching position. PLNU is a Christian liberal arts university in the evangelical, Wesleyan tradition, committed to providing higher education in a vibrant Christian environment that engages minds, models character, and fosters service as an expression of faith. The university encourages applications from culturally and academically diverse faculty with a commitment to teaching and scholarship. This is an in-person teaching position, with responsibilities beginning January 2027. The role will involve teaching a variety of courses across literature, journalism, writing, and modern languages.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in a specified discipline.
- Evidence of a commitment to excellence in undergraduate/graduate teaching.
- Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education and a desire to work in a Christian university.
- Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
- Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement.
- Agreement to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant.
- Successful completion of a background check.
Nice To Haves
- Doctorate preferred.
- A minimum of one year teaching experience.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching students from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in the area of literature, journalism, writing, and/or modern languages
- Work strategically with diverse colleagues, students, parents and community members
Benefits
- Adjunct pay range: $5,013 - $6,684 for a 3-unit full semester appointment (actual salary determined by units).
