About The Position

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, housed in the Department of Counseling and Behavioral Health at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS), is seeking up to eight adjunct instructors for the fall term, running from August 15 to December 15, 2026. This position reports to the Counseling Program Director, and hiring is conducted on a single-semester basis, contingent upon program needs. The program is looking for instructors to teach courses such as Foundations of Counseling, Counseling Theories, Addictions Counseling, Culture, Diagnosis, Human Development, Ethics, Substance Abuse, Group Counseling, and Crisis Counseling.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field
  • Active certification and professional licenses as applicable per individual's certification and licensure
  • Indication of knowledge of teaching and learning process as evidenced by educational program or experience teaching

  • Individuals qualified to teach several courses

Responsibilities

  • Teaching courses
  • Preparing appropriate course materials
  • Availability for student meetings
  • Maintaining a professional educational environment
  • Assisting with revising course curricula and syllabi
  • Assisting with ensuring the intellectual integrity of curriculum and syllabi
  • Ensuring all courses taught follow standard syllabus format
  • Participating in university, school, department, and program evaluations of teaching effectiveness, including OMETs and peer review
  • Maintaining regular communication with the Program Director
  • Regular meetings with the Program Director and the course lead
