About The Position

The Department of Psychology at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois is seeking to fill a part-time lecturer position for two graduate-level courses during the Winter 2026 quarter. Winter quarter runs from 11/09/2026 – 02/12/2027 with a two-week break at the end of December. Our HPSC-669 Theories of Counseling and Psychotherapy course meets for 4.50 hours per week on campus. This course provides an introduction to the major systems of psychotherapy and counseling. The implications of psychotherapy systems for case formulation and the similarities and differences between different psychotherapy systems are reviewed. The course places special emphasis on the key assumptions of various applied theories, the role and basic methods of clinical assessment, the stages of therapy, the role of the therapeutic relationship and the goals and strategies to effect change. Credit hours on gender-sensitive psychotherapy and culture-sensitive psychotherapy are included. Research bearing on and based on these systems is considered. Descriptive Psychopathology (HPSC 520) must be taken before this course can be taken. Part-time lecturer faculty have access to Departmental and University resources such as secretarial support, a university email account, and library access.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in psychology (PhD or PsyD) or MS in Counseling
• Past teaching experience at the graduate or undergraduate level
• Extensive experience in the area of personality broadly
• Knowledge of effective teaching strategies
• Ability to stimulate student thought through classroom interaction
• Ability to fairly and accurately evaluate student performance
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Effective interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree with extensive experience in the area (for those who have not yet attained a doctoral degree)
